Ionization zones in high power impulse magnetron sputtering, 10 ns each image, light intensity expressed in false color

The Plasma Applications Group develops plasma and ion beam tools for a wide range of materials issues, with emphasis on energy efficieny, renewable energies, and accelerator applications.

We are part of the Fusion Research and Ion Beam Technology  Program within the Accelerator and Fusion Research Division (AFRD), however we work across several divisions, including the Environmental Energy Technologies Division (EETD). and the Materials Sciences Division (MSD)We  develop plasma technology to deposit thin films, multilayer devices, synthesize materials such as transparent conductors, and modify surfaces.   One major interest is in processes and materials for  energy-efficient, dynamic (switchable) "smart" window, however our work can be applied in many fields where special films or surfaces are needed.

Hosting Visiting Scientists and students from all over the world is a long tradition of the group. We have long-term collaborations with groups and individuals from Russia, Australia, Germany, Belgium, England, and other countries.

We invite you to browse through our site exploring scientific topics and technical approaches. Visit our site to learn about the people behind interesting innovations, and feel free to request free copies of our publications.
